It all started and ended with a phone call.
As I held a tiny cute puppy in my hands, I called David (we had just got engaged) and asked him to come and meet me in a parking lot. I wouldn't tell him why, just that I needed to talk to him.
That was the summer of 2006 I was leading a young girl's lifegroup. We ended up at Target one night, and saw a lady trying to give away a beagle puppy. The girls went crazy over this puppy and talked me into keeping it. Since the youth group at our church is called Switch, they thought it only appropriate to name this sweet puppy Switch. She was 7 weeks old.
When David pulled up, I explained the situation and showed him the puppy. I thought he may get upset, but if you know David, he rarely gets upset about anything. That was the start of our CRAZY life with Switch. She was super spirited, ALL BEAGLE, loved to sniff and chase, getting out of any fence you put around her.
We finally decided about 6 months ago that she really needed to live on some sort of farm. Somewhere she could come and go as she pleased, with no boundaries. Our house has a huge backyard, with a field full of rabbits just behind it, and a very busy street to the side. We knew the situation wouldn't lead anywhere good.
Friday September 9th we got home from our softball game, and I let both dogs out to the backyard. Seajay did her business and was let back in, Switch had got out of the yard again (an every day thing at this point) and so we just waited for her to get back.
About and hour later my phone rang. It was my mom calling and I knew that with how late the phone call was coming, it had to be bad news. She wouldn't talk to me, just asked for David. As I sat there waiting, I knew. I knew something had happened to Switch. My mom was on her way home, and had found her in the road. Switch had been hit by a car and died. I can only assume, believe, hope, that she was chasing a rabbit and it ran across the street. Mom pulled over, picked her up, called David and waited for him to come get her.
David buried her in the field behind our house. Her rabbit field. I still can't believe she's gone forever. Sometimes I look out our bedroom window which overlooks the field and I expect to see her out there. My heart still hurts for that silly, mischevious, aggravating, sweet dog.

Turn-It-Up Tuesday
A day late, no song clip, but a great memory. Lately Hendrix has been singing nearly non-stop. I'm starting to think this kid picks up a new song everyday. Yesterday we were on the way to pick up my mom for lunch when the singing began The song of the day was The Itsy Bitsy Spider. After he sang it once or twice, he then said "mommy turn". After singing the song, and being told "again" for the umpteenth time I began to mix things up. Each time he would demand "again" I would sing The Itsy Bitsy Spider in a different voice. British, cowgirl, and opera were all funny to him, but apparently The Itsy Bitsy Spider made into a rap song is freakin hilarious to Hendrix. The belly laughs coming from the back seat were worth every second. I love that kid.

Mission Im-paci-ble
Last night David put Hendrix to bed. As H1 was thisclose to being asleep, he suddenly realized he didn't have his paci. No big deal David thought, he'd go get it. (and by "it" I mean one of three we have floating around)
So he started searching all the normal places. Dresser?Nope. Backpack?Nope. Kitchen island?Nope. After we searched everywhere from under the couch cushions to in the truck, we gave up and David got him to sleep without the pacifier. H1 came to our bed around midnight and proceeded to wake up nearly every hour asking for his pacifier.
Not only did we all get a crappy night sleep, but I'm screwed if I can't find a pacifier before naptime.
Mission Im-paci-ble? Challenge accepted. (as if I have a choice)

Messy Monday
It’s Messy Monday. The one day a week that I show you an embarrassing, long neglected mess in my house, in the hopes that it will make you feel better about yours. And because it keeps me accountable to tackle and least one mess a week that’s not just daily grind. Brace yourself.
Now, remember the rules of Messy Monday.
A) Don’t judge me.
and
B) Share your own long neglected embarrassment now :)
This is the holiday kitchen stuff / mail to be shredded cabinet and it is out of control!
My reward for cleaning it out today!
Ahhh, that's better!

(Mostly) Free Fun!
A few weeks before Hadley was born, David and I took Hendrix downtown for a "trolley" ride. This trolley is simply a city bus that they painted green to look like a trolley, and made it free.
Friday evening Hendrix told me he wanted to go ride the trolley. Saturday morning- off we went. Before we jumped on the trolley we had to grab some breakfast, being downtown, Jake's was the place to go. This place is really impressive for breakfast being that it's a burger joint. The breakfast tacos's with homemade salsa are amazing!
After Hendrix scarfed down his (entire!) pancake he promptly told us it was trolley time.
When it's 90 degrees at 10am, a trip to the Water Gardens is a must..so we did!
I'm so impressed with Hendrix today. He obeyed everything I asked of him and was in a fantastic mood the entire time. Made this Mama proud!

Messy Monday
I recently found this blogger who does this series called Messy Mondays. I thought I'd try it out, my house needs all the help it can get.
It’s Messy Monday. The one day a week that I show you an embarrassing, long neglected mess in my house, in the hopes that it will make you feel better about yours. And because it keeps me accountable to tackle and least one mess a week that’s not just daily grind. Brace yourself.
I would really like to create a spot in the house where I can scrapbook while the kids are playing nicely by themselves, within eyesight (HA! I can dream right?)This is my first step towards that goal. Check out the computer desk upstairs.
Wow. The dogs' crate has been in this room for 3 years and the layer of disgustingness (yes I made that up) is embarrassing. Tackling this with a newborn and 2.5 yo was no easy feat. It took forever with stealing time here and there during catnaps and videos. I cleaned, wiped down, put away, wiped down, and still see dog hair. I tried, Honestly. The result of my efforts?

Road Trip!
Since David was out of town this weekend on a snowboard trip, Hendrix and I took the opportunity to visit our friend's The Cope's in Shreveport. My sweet boy surprised me and did excellent on the 3.5 hour ride there.
Hendrix and Taylor have been friends for quite awhile now, and even though they hadn't seen eachother in months, they got right back into the swing of things like no time had passed at all.
Getting ready for bed was a big hit, who knew baths and teeth brushing was so much fun!
Saturday we all went to the Boardwalk and had a blast.
Riding on the "choo choo trolley"
What a great Daddy!
H's first carousel ride.
After the boardwalk it was naptime and boy did those two kids nap- 3 HOURS!!!!
Sunday morning Hendrix woke up before 7am and the first words out of his mouth were "Taylor, play!" We spendt the morning playing and enjoying a wonderful homemade breakfast, then we hit the road!
Thanks again to Katie, JT, and Taylor for a WONDERFUL weekend!!
